Description:

Abstract:: This dataset shows the general extent of the report, "Atlas of Tidal Restrictions on the South Shore of Massachusetts," prepared by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council and funded and prepared at the request of the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs Massachusetts Wetlands Restoration Program. The Atlas was published in December 2001 and it "identifies, inventories and prioritizes Massachusetts South Shore tidal restrictions that may adversely impact upstream tidal wetlands" according to the Purpose and Goals section of the Atlas. The municipalities included in the Atlas are Weymouth, Hingham, Hull, Cohasset, Scituate, Norwell, Marshfield, Duxbury, Kingston, and Plymouth.
Purpose:: This dataset was created for cartographic purposes to depict the municipalities included in the "Atlas of Tidal Restrictions on the South Shore of Massachusetts" report for the Digital Coastal Habitat Atlas for Boston Harbor.

To create this dataset, polygons depicting the towns included in the "Atlas of Tidal Restrictions on the South Shore of Massachusetts" were extracted from the MassGIS "Community Boundaries (Towns) from Survey Points (Polygons)" (last updated September 2009) data layer. The following towns were extracted using the select by attributes tool:

The selected towns were exported and dissolved.
