Abstract:

These GIS data show the locations of marinas, boatyards, yacht clubs, and yachting related facilities along the Massachusetts coast. The data were compiled from public lists, databases, and visual inspection of orthoimagery. While not fully comprehensive, these data constitute a majority of the marina-type resources available to recreational yachtspersons. All data are represented as points with associated attribute data. Marinas are generally defined by CZM for these data as facilities that cater to recreational yachtspersons and provide berths, moorings, maintenance and repair, hauling, storage, chandely, fuel, and/or other supplies. Marina types were subdivided into marinas, yacht clubs, boat yards, municipal facilities, and unknown. All "marinas" have tidal frontage.

Logical_Consistency_Report:

All points are believed to represent marinas fields based on ortho imagery, records searches, and web research.

Completeness_Report:

Geographic feature locations were acquired from manuals, books, and public lists and geocoded using ArcGIS Pro and Google Maps. Locations were subsequently micro-located visually over MassGIS Licensed Google Ortho Imagery (2018) and additional point features with boat storage located on orthophotos. The methodology and content are consistent over entire coastal area. Marinas outside of the coastal zone were not included in this dataset.

Data were geocoded from various source lists in Google Earth Plus and ArcView. Locations were subsequently refined visually over observable yards / marinas / yacht clubs matching addresses. CZM augmented the data set with additional web research and local knowledge courtesy of the CZM Regional Coordinators who reviewed, and as needed, made edits to the data.
