Abstract:
On July 31, 2013, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) auctioned the Rhode Island/Massachusetts Wind Energy Area, which represented the nation's first competitive lease sale. BOEM auctioned the area as two leases, referred to as the North Lease Area (Lease OCS-A 0486) and the South Lease Area (Lease OCS-A 0487). The North Lease Area consisted of about 97,500 acres and the South Lease Area consisted of about 67,250 acres. Deepwater Wind New England, LLC was the winner of both lease areas. On September 12, 2013, BOEM executed commercial wind energy leases OCS-A 0486 and OCS-A 0487 with the winner of lease sale ATLW-2, Deepwater Wind New England, LLC. In March 2014, Deepwater Wind informed BOEM that they do not intend to conduct site assessment activities for Commercial Lease OCS-A 0487 (South). BOEM informed Deepwater Wind that the 5-year site assessment term for the South lease began on July 1, 2014. Process_Description:
Downloaded the renewable energy leasing areas shapefile from the BOEM website (<http://www.boem.gov/Renewable-Energy-GIS-Data/>) on January 12, 2015. In ArcGIS, selected by attributes where "INFO" = 'Rhode Island/Massachusetts Lease Area' to select the lease area of interest. Dissolved the features based on the following fields: PROT_NUMBE; Lease_Numb; State; Lease_Type; Resource; Company; PROT_NAME; Lease_Term; Proj_Ease_; Lease_Date; and INFO. Projected the data to the Massachusetts State Plane Coordinate System, Mainland Zone (FIPS zone 2001), meters.
